Bank Street Trainer Judith Gold at Rato Bangala


As Rato Bangala comes close to its 20th anniversary, Bank Street trainer, Judith Gold conducted a landmark training session for a month from 28 August to 24 September. Judith worked with teachers and the school leadership on various aspects of the curriculum and supervision. She conducted a series of sessions with teachers from grades I-VIII on planning and implementing the new topics and ideas in Social Studies effectively. With the school leadership, Judith focused on the coaching process. The highlight of Judith’s time here was setting up the block areas in grades I and II and preparing teachers to use them. We thank Judith for inspiring us all with her level of energy and enthusiasm for teaching and learning and for conducting  memorable sessions.
Graduation of the Class of 2011
Graduation of the Class of 2011 took place on 23 July in the Kamalmani Theatre at Rato Bangala School. Ninety-nine graduates who recently completed their A Level graduated in an event that celebrated the end of one journey and the beginning of another. Congratulations to the Class of 2011, their teachers and parents.

SAYS Participants from RBS
Congratulations Arjit Adhikary and Shashank Sharma. These two A Level students ave been selected to participate in the South Asia Youth Summit: Developing Leadership in Young people to Transform Communities (SAYS) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Washington DC for a month in April-May 2011. The primary goal of the programme is "to build individual and collective leadership, problem-solving skills and team-work."
Ratobangala Donates Puppies
Rato Bangala School donated two labrador puppies, Taathi and Baathi  to the Police Academy to be trained as sniffer dogs. The mother of the puppies is Lily the RBS hostel dog.
RBS Students Attend Harvard Model United Nations 2011
In January a group of ten A Level students attended  the Harvard Model United Nations 2011 in Boston with the Principal Ms Milan Dixit.
RBS Model UN 2010
Rato Bangala Model United Nations 2010 simulated eight committees with four General Assembly committees, UNEP, and the Human Rights Council. New committees this year were the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, the Historical Security Council 1979 and the Constituent Assembly, Nepal.

Climate Conference 2010
Three A Level students(Akchheta Karki, Apoorva Lal and Kripa Dangol) along with A Level Coordinator Ms Rajni Upadhyaya went to Copenhagen, Denmark to attend the Climate Change Conference 2010 in March. The students had the most enriching learning expereince.
Word Environment Day 2010
Grade VIII wins the first prize award for Herbal Poster with Recipe as part of the  Promoting Herbal Gardens in Schools competition organized by ICIMOD(Integrated Centre for Mountain Development, NTNC(National Trust for Nature Conservation), Friends of the Zoo and PABSON. Language Arts and Social Studies Fair and the Math and Science Fair
Grades V-VIII Language Arts and Social Studies Fair was held on 3 March 2010 as a closure to the academic year by to showcasing samples of work done by the students in Language Arts and Social Studies this year.

Similarly, a Mathematics and Science fair was held on 5 March, 2010 for grades I-IV with myriad interactive activities.
Inspiring Climate Education 2009
Principal Ms Milan Dixit attended the Conference Inspiring Climate Education 2009(ICE09) in Copenhagen, Denmark from 12 to 14 October. The objectives of the conference was to “attract attention to teaching current climate change, collect, qualify and disseminate teaching materials, exchange, inspire and develop best practice and contribute to international cooperation and network”. Ms Dixit had to present a poster and a unit on teaching climate change. She felt that this was a very good learning experience.
Director's visit to Vienna
On September 2009, Director Dr Shanta Dixit visited Vienna at the invitation of Ambassador Dr. Irene FREUDENSCHUSS-REICHL, Director General for Development Cooperation. On this occasion, Ms Dixit had the opportunity to visit many people working in the field of education and share the work done at Rato Bangala. Ms Heide TEBBICH, Director of “BAOBAB” (Global Education Resource Centre), Mag Heide-Marie HAIDINGER, Department for international bilateral affairs, Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture and Dr. Dagmar HACKL, Rector of the “Pädagogische Hochschule Wien” (University of Education Vienna). "There was a lot to learn from these institutions, and generally people were very excited to hear about what Rato Bangala was doing, both within its own school, and as part of the outreach program. The dedication of the people both working with the Government and in the private sector was praiseworthy," according to Dr Shanta Dixit.
Knit One Save One
Knit one save one
Inspired by the Save the Children project,  Knit One Save One, RBS students from grades VI to X participated in a knitting campaign to save newborn babies. Students as well as teachers knit caps, socks and sweaters which will be taken to Dailekh and distributed by the A Level volunteers. Knit one Save One Campaign was initiated by Save the Children keeping in mind that four million children, worldwide, die every year within the first month of their life,very often from preventable illnesses like pneumonia. Keeping a baby warm is one of the simplest ways of saving lives.
Rato Bangala Teacher Training goes Regional 6 March - 21 April, 2009
Rato Bangala Teacher Training goes RegionalDirector Shanta Dixit and Principal Milan Dixit of Rato Bangala School conducted a training course for teachers in Delhi.

The training was organized by Learning Matters Foundation in Delhi, an organization that attends to learners with special needs.

The 72 hour training offered in Delhi at the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation at Jawahar Bhavan.

Teachers from private schools, government schools as well as from the American Embassy School attended.
