Why CIE A-Levels

  • Flexibility: The structure of the A Level course allows students considerable flexibility in designing a stimulating programme of study. Students have the option of choosing either A Level or AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Level courses in order to fulfill the Level requirements. Students choose the length and depth of study which match their interests.
  • Rigour: Demanding courses stretch able students, who can also take a heavy course load for an additional challenge.
  • International standards: The programme sets a standard for education around the world.
  • Recognition: An A Level degree is recognised by countries across the globe as meeting their requirements for entry into higher education.

Extra- and co-curricular activities

Students generally pursue several extra-curricular activities from the long list of opportunities offered by the school or organised by students themselves.

High school play

A high school play is staged generally every few years. These plays bring the school together, and the proceeds are used to upgrade school facilities or are donated charitable causes outside the school. Some very successful plays in the past have been West Side Story, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Macbeth.

Special interest clubs

A-Level students are encouraged to run special interest clubs with the help of a teacher mentor. These clubs are initiated by students and encouraged and supported by the school administration. Students interested in initiating a club must first write a proposal and get it approved. Some examples of special interest clubs follow.

Community service is a compulsory component of the A-Level programme at Rato Bangala. Students need to log in 140 hours of community service over the two-year period. The community service coordinator will require, in writing, evaluations from the community service placements students have participated in at different times. All placements, particularly those initiated by students themselves, need the prior approval of the coordinator.

Mission statement of community service

We believe that interacting constructively with the people in the community in order to identify and solve problems together provides us with the opportunity to enlighten and empower others as well as ourselves and ultimately to help make this world a better place.

Timeframe

The A-Level programme lasts two years. Classes for A-level students begin in June.

Admission Process

Students have to collect the application forms and sit for an entrance evaluation. The forms are distributed shortly after the SLC examinations. After an entrance examination, short-listed candidates will be called for an interview and the selection notification will be given soon after that.
